Loki and Space Core Cosplaying at MegaCon

As promised last week, I'd like to share my daughter's completed Loki costume we created over the past many months. If you missed my post last week, you can check it out here. So what is Cosplaying, you ask? Basically wearing a costume and role playing, usually at a convention such as Comic Con, MetroCon, MegaCon etc. (You Big Bang fans out there know what I'm talking about.)

We attended MegaCon this past weekend in Orlando and Jamie said it was the absolute BEST CON EVER. I think I may have a clue why...

Here's my little girl dressed as a guy. LOL! She's Loki from The Avengers and the two of us made this costume over the past several months. She was thrilled with how it came out, and in all honesty, that made all the blood, sweat and tears worth it along the way. And the biggest pay-off? She was photographed over 100 times at MegaCon which is what it's all about for these kids.

She said that she couldn't make a move without someone asking to take her picture. She LOVED it, of course. Something like being a star and having the paparazzi following you around all day. Exhausting, yet exhilarating.

At MegaCon, you also encounter other cosplayers and they gather together for photo-ops such as this one.

And there's always a major photo shoot scheduled, such as this Marvel one in front of the convention center. Yes, even the little Corgi was dressed up, although he doesn't have his mask on in this photo.

Sunday was a little more low-key. Here Jamie (far left) and her buds were cosplaying Space Core from Portal 2. Each girl is a different personality in the game and the center person/robot is GlaDos. You can read all about it here if you're interested.

Jamie created and painted all the girls' costumes (minus GlaDos). Basically, men's sweats and acrylic paint. That's the fascinating part of attending any Con. Most of these kids are super creative and make their own costumes from things they find at Goodwill, the hardware store, and wherever else they can scrounge up stuff. Some of it is super impressive too.

As for me and dad, we just stay near the convention center keeping in touch via text and let her have her glorious fun all weekend. Some kids have sports, others have jobs. This is her thing and we support her all the way. It keeps her happy, out of trouble, and provides her with a community of some really great kids with the same interests. She'll be the first to tell you she's a nerd. And that's totally okay with us.

  3. My daughter(15)is just getting into the cosplay and conventions. Thanks for the costume tips and information - in a place I look (scrapbooking) instead of her sites. I don't do much surfing, so this is great. Love your site.

  4. I can see why she was photographed so much. The costume is awesome, but then you add the hair and she looks like she could be Loki's younger brother!!
